“Would you rather the fight be anti-climatic or to wind up dead?” Alucard asked.
“Sort of hoping to avoid either option there,” Zero responded.
At his feet, Ellen thrashed violently. Zero casually moved out of harm’s way every time her claws moved within range.
“I’m surprised you didn’t drink either her or that wolf’s blood.”
“I’m not sure I’d like a fur coat and I wasn’t exactly able to get a sip of hers, now was I?”
Alucard smiled, “Well then, you should probably be finishing them off then.”
“Yes, I…”
Something slammed into Zero’s side, sending him flying. He crashed into the outer wall of the Citadel, leaving a dent. He got up to stare at his attacker.
Ana glared at him, her determination fixed in her eyes.
“Listen,” Zero said, tearing himself from the wall, “I don’t want to hurt you. You don’t seem like that bad a person. You can just turn around and-”
“Shut up!” Zero’s mouth glued shut, though not of his own will. “That won’t work again. I’m not going to let you kill my friends!”
Zero felt control to his mouth return, “Ok, then we have a problem here. I can’t let them go and you can’t let me kill them. How about we compromise?”
“No!” Ana yelled, sending another invisible force to slam into Zero and fix him to the wall. It was her voice, he realized.
“They’re here to kill me, Ana. Afterwards they probably were going to kill everyone in the Citadel. I can’t just let them continue to massacre humans!”
“And I can’t let you massacre Undead! We’re no different than your precious humans! Sure, we’ve got powers they don’t, but we think and we feel!”
Zero pushed himself out of the large dent again, “Alucard, back me up here.”
“Don’t drag me down with your mistake.”
“Mistake? You were telling me to kill them a few moments ago! Hell, you’re a Vampire yourself! Don’t you feed on Undead?!”
“I wasn’t talking about that,” Alucard laughed. “I was talking about arguing with a woman. Trust me, I’ve been around for awhile and let me tell you that it is one of the worst mistakes you’ll make. Remind me later to tell you about Selina and the wolf incident.”
Zero raised an eyebrow before returning back to Ana, “Look, I’m not trying to say that Undead are inhuman monsters…Except for those three things you threw at me in the beginning. Those were pretty much inhuman and monsters. The point I’m trying to make here is that if I leave them, they’ll only come back to kill again.”
“And that’s the same point that makes me wonder if I did the right thing back in the sewers. All you’ve been doing after that has been hurting my friends.”
Zero had moved up to reach Alucard again. He paused for a moment before replying.
“Alright, take them and go. Just don’t have them come back here…”
Ana smiled and went over to help up Fenrir.
“Are you sure?” Alucard asked. “You are a Vampire, the hunter of the other Undead.”
“Ana was a Banshee who didn’t kill a human. Why can I not be a Vampire that doesn’t kill another Undead?”
“Your hands are already stained with their blood. You just killed 3 monsters and destroyed more Zombies than you remember, I’ll bet. How can you say that you don’t kill them?”
“I shall not end the life of one of the intelligent ones, those that think and feel, unless I have no other choice,” Zero looked him in the eye. “Or unless they have become monsters, themselves.”
Alucard broke out laughing, “Good answer. Then I shall make the same promise for as long as you live and you still keep that oath. I’d like to suggest something though.”
“What’s that?”
“Move.”
Zero leapt backwards with the last of his strength as a blade of Infection tore into the ground he’d been standing on. A man, draped in black, landed onto of the scarred ground.
“Hello, Jack!” Alucard greeted him happily.
“Vox!” Jack gnashed his teeth. “Don’t interfere. I’d hate to have to harm a Pure.”
“And I’d hate to have to kill an upstart who’s almost near my level. Word to the wise, don’t make threats unless you can keep them or at least bluff all the way through.”
Jack’s face twitched as his façade fell away. He turned towards Zero to hide his face.
“You’re finished here, Vampire. I’m here to retrieve our siblings.”
“Fine by me,” Zero shrugged. “I’m done anyways.”
“I hope they weren’t too much of a bother,” Jack hissed, sarcasm dripping off every word.
“Nope,” Zero faked stretching while trying to not show how much crap had been beaten out of him. “Great morning workout. However, I’d like it if you guys could give me a day off from kicking your asses.”
“Don’t worry, these were just disobeying orders. I see you took care of disciplinary action.”
Zero paused for a moment.
“This wasn’t…”
“An attack? No. We’ve learned from our mistakes. When we do attack, you will have two options: stand aside or die.”
Alucard interrupted, “So how did you do a Nothing Slash?”
“Void Slash,” Zero corrected.
“Void… That does have a nice ring to it…” Alucard said after a moment of thought.
“Told you,” Lloyd whispered to Ellen. Her tail was able to reach his ear for a quick smack.
“That,” Jack said, scooping up Ellen and Lloyd in each arm and standing next to Fenrir and Ana, “is thanks to this sword.”
Alucard’s eyes widened, “Where the hell did you get that?!”
Not a single person expected the laid back Vampire to react like that.
“It was Marcus’,” Jack said, bewildered at the seriousness Alucard had not shown before.
Alucard stood completely still for a moment as Jack hurriedly disappeared. Just as the last of him faded, Alucard was standing where he once was, grasping the air.
“Son of a-!” he shouted. “Get back here!”
A second later, his fury died down. He turned back to Zero.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to-”
“Forget it. There are so many questions I’m not getting answers to. I’m not adding this to the list.  Just tell me everything you know about Vampires and we’ll be even.”
“Deal. Just give me a moment then, I need to go get someone.”

Lily crouched in the corner of the room, waiting for that man, Alucard, to return. Memories began fill the silent room around her. Then he arrived and the memories scattered as her mind returned to reality.
“Ok, the fight’s over. You can come with me now.”
“Fight?”
“Yeah, I just had to help out a new friend,” he told her as he picked her up. “Hang on.”
He turned towards the wall and kicked it down then ran through the hole. He turned his shoulder to absorb the blow as he plummeted through the glass window in the next room. His momentum sent him straight to the building on the opposite side of the street. One arm left her as he plunged it into the wall and slid down it. He arrived safely on the ground in front of a man with white hair and a black coat. Lily saw blood all over his face.
“Nice, but ‘Can you fly?’ was my question,” the man laughed.
Alucard laughed as well as he put Lily down, “You really are a Vampire.”
“I try.”
Another man, this one with brown hair approached them.
“You ok?”
“Yeah, no thanks to you, Hawke!” the white haired man growled.
“I didn’t know the gun was empty.”
“That bite hurt my arm! I’m not talking about a puppy bite here! That thing felt like someone had my arm in a vice… a vice with teeth!”
“Suck it up,” Alucard slapped the man on what Lily assumed was the injured arm from the man’s grimace.
“So who are these two?” a mountain of a man asked as he approached. “I assume the white haired one is Undead, but he’s a friend right?”
“Of course, Gabriel,” Alucard assured him. This had the exact opposite affect judging from the reactions.
“How do you know me?!” Gabriel  demanded with his gun in Alucard’s face.
“I’m the Pure know as Vox the Fallen,” Alucard calmly explained as he pushed the handgun from his face. “Though you probably know me as Mr. 2.”
Gabriel froze.
“The second seat on the Council?! But that’s been handed down through the family that has been funding us since the death of Dracula…”
“At least that’s how it was supposed to appear, Gabriel. In reality, I just change my appearance slightly to deceive those paying a close eye to that seat. You see, I’ve been supplying you out of Dracula’s assets, which I took after his death, and out of some profitable investments I’ve made over the years.”
Gabriel was about to respond when his radio went off.
“Gabe, you need to get over here now. We finally have incoming backup!”
Lily recognized the voice.
“Vale!”
All eyes turned to her. Gabriel paused before responding, “I’ll be down there in a moment. You should come meet someone at the front gate while I’m heading over there.”
“Who?”
“What’s your name?” Gabriel held the radio over for her to speak into.
“Lily,” she admitted after a second.
“You hear that?”
There was a long pause, “Yes. I’ll be right over there.”

Gabriel sat down in front of the radio, worried about Vale and Lily. Something was wrong, but they needed to settle that themselves. For now, he had his hands full with getting backup, wrapping his head around the identity of Mr. 2, and running the Citadel. He decided he might as well get one of those things done.
Gabriel flicked on the long range radio, “Hello, this is Citadel. Is anyone out there?”
“…Gabriel? Is that you?” a familiar voice came back over the radio.
“Hello, Michael. It’s been awhile.”
“Too long… I trust that you’ve seen the situation in New Talon now?”
Gabriel thought about Zero and Alucard for a second.
“Whatever you think it is,” he sighed, “I assure you the truth is much stranger.”
Zero Blood Chapter 19.

The end of the attack is finally here, along with some more mystery to pile onto the story. We also have the beginning of the end of the beginning of the end. In other words, things should really start happening now (and I need some time to think up what they will be, so hiatus time again). I'll try to get the next chapter up as soon as I can form it.
